Soul music is Corrie star Craig Charles' first love

Starting out as a performance poet turned stand-up comedian, he became a household name playing Dave Lister in cult comedy sensation Red Dwarf.

Now he is best known for his role as Lloyd Mullaney in Corrie.

However, to fans of funk and soul, Craig, 52, will always be best known for the radio show devoted to their favourite music which he has hosted for the last 14 years.

The show’scurrent home is on BBC Radio 6 Music on Saturdays, between 6pm and 9pm.

Now the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club comes to Blackpool.

He will be performing at the Bootleg Social, an alternative late bar in Topping Street.

Since 2008, Craig has continuously toured Funk and Soul Club, performing live DJ sets at nightclubs, festivals and special events throughout the UK.

Craig plays a mixture of well-known, classic funk and soul tracks, usually covered and remixed by current leading bands and DJs, along with the latest new dancefloor hits.

The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club is coming to Bootleg Social on Saturday, August 20.

He is supported by Templebys, a Preston-based funk, jazzand Soul band, Soul Food DJs and Phil Austin

Gareth Lapsins, 29, club co-owner said: “This is his third time down at Bootleg and it keeps getting better.

“This will be another amazing night and we are excited to be bringing big names to our bar. Craig Charles always brings raw energy and a busy dancefloor”.
