Performing pupils hit the stage

The annual Schools Alive week returns to the Grand Theatre next month, bringing together 2,000 pupils from Blackpool’s primary and secondary schools together over four nights, from Monday to Thursday, February 8 to 11.

Presented by Blackpool Music Service and Blackpool Music Education Hub, each school and academy in the town is offered the chance to perform on the same stage that has played host to talented actors, comedians and musicians since the 1890s.

The children will present songs, dances and musical numbers they have been working on throughout the school year.

Grand Theatre marketing manager Andrew Howard, said: “The Grand is a community asset and it is really important to us that the local schoolchildren get to perform here.

“For many of the children taking part, Schools Alive is their first introduction to theatre and hopefully this positive experience will mean they continue to participate in performing arts in future.

“During Schools Alive week, the theatre is always buzzing – it’s the perfect opportunity for family, friends and teachers to come together and enjoy a really great night out.”
