There'll be no need to walk 500 miles to see Scottish pop siblings The Proclaimers, as they've announced a Blackpool date in their new tour.

The singing twins will be heading to the Grand Theatre in May as part of their ‘seaside and regions’ tour.

Tickets go on sale at 10am today, with the date confirmed just days after the Grand revealed its new season in full.

Best known for hits such as I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles), Sunshine On Leith and Letter From America, their music has been turned into a stage musical and a 2013 hit independent film called Sunshine On Leith.

Andrew Howard, Grand Theatre marketing manager said: “We are thrilled to announce Craig and Charlie Reid will be appearing in Blackpool.

“Without doubt we expect demand to be high so I advise people to book as soon as possible.

“The Proclaimers adds to a great line up of entertainment that we have announced this week in our new season.”

Last year the act was named Ents 24 website’s sixth biggest live music act in the UK, as they toured the country following the April release of their 10th studio album Let’s Hear It For The Dogs, appearing at 15 festivals and 53 sold-out theatres.

The brothers Craig and Charlie Reid have over the years enjoyed huge success across the globe with gold and platinum singles and albums in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Among their celebrity fans are actor David Tennant and comedian and actor Matt Lucas.

In the sleeve notes for their ‘Best Of’ compilation, Matt said: “I find it hard to put into words quite how the music of The Proclaimers makes me feel.

“It makes me laugh. It makes me cry. It just makes me generally euphoric... Sunshine On Leith says more to me about my life and the way I feel than anything Morrissey or Cobain ever wrote.”

And on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island discs, David Tennant describes his first track by The Proclaimers – “I could have chosen any and every track from this band, probably my favourite band of all time. They write the most spectacular songs, big hearted, uncynical passionate songs.”
