Band of brothers bring an '˜intimate night of folk'

The band will be back in town on Sunday, April 24, bringing the repertoire of hit songs such as I Will Love You, When You Were Sweet 16, The Green Fields Of France and Steal Away, spanning their 36-year career.

A spokesman said: “As one of the biggest folk acts to come out of Ireland, The Fureys are responsible for some of the most stirring music to ever capture the imagination of the public.

“Their folk-based music has received standing ovations in some of the world’s biggest concert halls.

“The band found fame In 1981 when they released their most successful single When You Were Sweet 16, which went onto become a worldwide hit.

“The Furey Brothers were encouraged to play music from a very early age, being exposed to live traditional music in their home nightly by their parents Ted and Nora Furey who proved a huge musical influence on the brothers.

“After 36 years, The Fureys are still going strong, with a line up that now consists of Eddie Furey, George Furey, Camillus Hiney, Aidan Guilfoyl and Ger Lord.”

Tickets for The Fureys at the Grand Theatre on Sunday, April 24, are on sale now, costing £22.50, from the box office on (01253) 290190.
