Three world medals for Lytham sprinter George Fox

The Blackpool Wyre and Fylde Athletics Club flyer from Eden Avenue took second place in the 100m, 200m and 400m in Barcelona, achieving three personal bests along the way.

George’s outstanding achievements lifted him to 10th in the world 100m rankings and 13th for the 200, while consolidating his UK rankings of second.

This caps an outstanding season for George, who turned 21 this month.

He also took silver in the 100m and 200m at the England Senior Championships as well as winning bronze over both distances at the British University Championships.

George was among 500 athletes from 25 countries competing at the games in Spain, which included such sports as swimming and football as well as athletics.

George, who had a brain haemorrhage at the age of eight, has improved greatly under the coaching of Derek Newton at BWFAC.

His proud mother Debbie told The Gazette: “George has worked extremely hard to overcome his disabilities and to get to the level he is at now.

“He continues to train hard every day and is a driven and focused athlete.”

George’s ultimate ambition is to represent his country at the world championships and Paralympics.
