Poulton schoolteacher Andy Woodward flew to the USA this week to represent Great Britain at triathlon and hopes his success will inspire his pupils to give the sport a try.
Indeed, before jetting out to Chicago, Poulton St Chad’s teacher Andy arranged for his Year Four pupils to give triathlon a go at Palatine Leisure Centre on St Annes Road, South Shore.
Andy, who won his place in the GB team as one of the top 12 finishers in a qualifying event in Chester, will contest the world aquaton (combining running and swimming) today before the triathlon (which adds a third element in cycling) on Saturday.
Andy invited AllStars along to last week’s Palatine event and explained: “I was never that good at sport at school but I’ve proved to myself that you can succeed if you train hard enough.
“I want to get that message across to the children at school, and I hoped that by giving them a chance to try triathlon they will realise that they can do it too.”
Good luck to Andy, who is sponsored by AGC Chemicals Europe and Fleetwood Freeport.
