Sedbergh’s senior sides both nilledas KGS excel in attack and defence

They seldom looked back after Kieran Wilkinson nudged them in front with an early penalty.

Captain George Blackwell was in outstanding form and was well supported by fellow back rowers Charlie Abbott and Jack Edwards, who gained the upper hand at the breakdown.

The front row of George William , Ben Gregory and Jamie Ross also carried the ball well and gained ground on numerous occasions.

Ross forced his way over the line for the opening try followed soon after by fellow prop Williams, who crashed through for a touchdown after a clever pass from scrum-half George Carter.

In the run-up to half-time, Kirkham winger James Maddrell intercepted a loose Sedbergh pass and sprinted in for a length-of-the-field try.

This made the score 22-0 at half-time following a Wilkinson conversion.

The second half was all about a magnificent KGS defence as a wall of blue confronted Sedbergh, who did all they could in a desperate bid to fight back.

However, KGS finished the game off with another well-worked forwards’ try, when lock Sam Dugdale found his way to the line.

The KGS Second XV also nilled their counterparts from Sedbergh, winning 13-0 in their best display of the season against a previously unbeaten side.

Both sides had to battle against strong wind and driving rain.

However, the conditions did not diminish the skill-level of both sides.

The impressive Kirkham back row and in-form centre Matt Gallagher put in some crunching tackles.

Kirkham always seemed to have the upper hand, despite losing Gallagher to the sin-bin.

The score remained 0-0 until Gallagher returned and a sustained period of pressure saw Gabriel Bland dummy his way between the posts, Pearson adding the conversion.

The score-line remained 7-0 until half-time.

The second half saw the visitors come back into the game with a period of pressure, but they were still unable to breach the solid Kirkham defence.

The Kirkham replacements made their mark, putting in some fierce tackles. Pearson added two well-struck penalties to stretch the lead.

Sedbergh tried hard to get back into the game, but saw their usual fast-flowing style deserted them with some wayward passing.

And with Pearson in fine form with the boot, they forced Sedbergh back into their own half on several occasions.
