Scorpions’ hopes that they may have put their NWC division one relegation fears behind them were dashed by a strong St Helens side.

They had a mountatin to climb after only ten minutes, conceding three tries to trail 16-0.

Scorpions steadied the ship as Phil Mitchell and Anthony Green drove them forward, and Josh Sherman and Ryan Fuller made try-saving tackles.

Haydock went over again on the half-hour but then Scorpions had their best spell as Phil Mitchell went over from the scrum and Matty Egan converted.

Anthony Green had a try disallowed but Scorpions started the second half as badly as they had the first, conceding three more tries as the hosts pulled clear.

Tries by Anthony Green and Taylor Ramsden, one converted by Matty, cut the gap to 38-14 but Haydock scored twice more in the final five minutes, despite tireless efforts by Danny Barr and John Parker.

Luke Jardine opened the scoring early and Anthony Clark soon dummied through for the second try.

Dexter Stott-Crook smashed through for the next try before the visitors cut the deficit to 16-6.

Blackpool led 24-6 at half-time thanks to tries by George Higgins and Matt Rowley, following Paul Ogden’s pinpoint crossfield kick.

Clark scored his second frm Carl Reynolds’ offload and completed his hat-trick from Ben Stubberfield’s grubber.

Stott-Crook scored his second before Adam Bebbington powered through. Jordan Rossall completed the scoring and Jardine added four conversions.
