Blackpool started their league season with an impressive 51-0 win over Fleetwood Thirds, which rewarded their hard summer of recruitment and preparations.

The hosts struck first as Leon Mason coolly dispatched a penalty, but the visitors came storming back and Blackpool were forced to repel wave after wave of attack.

Blackpool fly-half Adam Glover made a great break and his perfect cut-out pass sent winger James Carty scorching 40 metres down the touchline for a try converted by Mason.

They were soon over again as a great carry from Daniel Komosinski started the moved which ended with winger Antony Clark sending Jamie Robertson diving over.

Number eight Komosinski rampaged over from close range, taking a number of Fleetwood defenders with him, to make it 20-0. Resolute defence ensured that’s how it stayed until half-time.

Glover showed some fancy footwork to scythe through for a superb 50-metre try, again improved by Mason.

And when centre Paul Vuti was dragged down just short, he produced a superb pass out of the tackle for Clark to score at the corner. Mason’s third conversion made it 34-0.

Baz Tucker bulldozed his way over the whitewash from close range, and despite losing Mason and Wilkinson to injuries Blackpool kept the scoreboard ticking over as Niall Crane latched on to Luke Crosbie’s pass to race 30 metres to score.

There was time for one more try as Vuti broke from deep and fed Carty, who raced down the wing before flicking the ball back inside for Vuti to score. Crosbie’s goal brought up the half-century.

Komosinsk was named man of the match for Blackpool, who host Preston Grasshoppers on Saturday.
