And he came up with an admission, all the more surprising given his commitment and work-rate.

He said: “In hindsight maybe I should have worked more on my tackling technique as this has caught up with me now.”

That is the last thing that Fylde team-mates, members and spectators will remember him more for, much more so the fact that he skippered Fylde to the National Two North League in season 2010-11 when Jason Robinson was brought out of retirement to play for the Woodlands club.

Beaumont said: “I certainly have no regrets when it comes to my time with Fylde. It would have been nice to have scored a few more tries in my career as my tryscoring ratio isn’t much to shout about, but I like to think I put 100 per cent in each week and put my body on the line for the team.”

Beaumont has ben frustrated by injury over the last couple of seasons.

He said: “It has been a frustrating last few seasons through injury not helped by tw operations in four years and unfortunately after injuring my shoulder last season I require another shoulder operation which would involve a substantial rehab if I wanted to play again.

“I am choosing not to have surgery as my injury does not cause me any problems day to day and the rehab after the operation would be difficult with family and work commitments.

“It is disappointing because I would have liked to finished playing on my own terms especially as this would have been my 10th season in the first team but with me being sidelined with injury so much over the last few years it has got me used to now watching on Saturdays.

“Even though my playing time has petered out over the last few seasons I am proud of what I have achieved both playing for Fylde but also being fortunate enough to represent the club playing for Lancashire, winning three County Championships and being capped by the county, playing for England Counties and the Barbarians on two occasions.

“The highlight of my Fylde career has to been winning the National Two North League in while captaining the club.

“The whole ethos of playing attacking rugby was special and I was proud to be part of a group of players who played that brand of rugby and maintained that philosophy moving into National One

“Playing with my brother Josh in his early rugby career was a special experience; it was obvious from playing and training with Josh he was destined for bigger and better things and is great to see how far has progressed since those early days.”
