FIVE Fleetwood RU players are celebrating their call-up to the Lancashire Under-20 squad.
Jack Crompton, Tom Evans, Danny Maher, Kris Phillips and Henry Turner were all members of the club’s successful senior colts squads in the past two seasons and have gained considerable first-team experience.
This is a huge boost for the club and testified to the success of its mini-junior section, which continues to supply the senior teams with players.
Winger Phillips was the first to gain senior experience when he broke into the first team shortly after his 17th birthday, and has gone on to be a prolific try-scorer.
Crompton also plays on the wing and is another clinical finisher, while Evans has been a regular for two seasons at half-back or full-back, travelling home from his studies in Leeds to play.
Hooker Turner has made the position his own following an injury to club captain Mike Barkworth and back-rower Maher can count himself unlucky not to have made more first-team appearances.
This quality quintet has come up through the ranks at Melbourne Avenue, starting as young as eight years old.
