Old Albanian 41, Fylde 45
Fylde claimed an amazing win in the opening match of the National League One season, coming from 19-7 down to register a bonus-point victory in a captivating contest.
Fylde made the worst possible start, conceding two early tries and having Scott Barrow yellow-carded in a torrid opening.
Fylde re-gathered some composure when Chris Johnson crossed for a converted try.
Old Albanian hit back with a converted try of their own to make it 19-7.
The visitors retaliated with converted tries by debutant Gareth Gore and skipper Evan Stewart and, amazingly, had turned the situation round to go 21-19 ahead.
The lead didn’t last long before Old Abanian struck back to to ahead 26-21.
But the first half action was not over and Ryan De La Harpe crossed tor Fylde to give them a 28-26 lead at half-time, Johnson having converted the scrum-half’s try.
Warren Spragg scored the opening try of the second half as Fylde went 35-26 in front.
But there was a further twist as Old Albanian hit back with another try.
At this point the score was 35-31 to Fylde, who extended their advantage with a penalty in front of the posts.
The home side reduced Fylde’s advantage to two points with a try.
The high excitement continued as Fylde notched a converted try to lead 45-36.
Old Albanian rallied to score a try as Fylde’s lead was cut to 45-41 to set up a frantic finale, but the visitors held on for victory in a memorable contest
