Fylde stand firm behind Lancashire Cup

HOLDERS Fylde begin their defence of rugby union’s Lancashire Cup tonight with a home clash in round one against Vale Of Lune (kick-off 7.30pm), writes STEVE SIMPSON.

The match is effectively a quarter-final. The other fixtures are: Leigh v Preston Grasshoppers, Sedgley Park v Broughton Park, Liverpool St Helens v Waterloo.

There have been doubts expressed over whether all the ties will go ahead but Fylde are firm supporters of the county cup. Coach Mark Nelson said: “We have to try to keep the integrity of the Lancashire Cup as a proper competition.”

n FYLDE supporters may require sunglasses on Saturday for the final home match of the season against Ealing Trailfinders. The Fylde team will be wearing a special shirt.

The first team squad has launched an initiative to raise funds for Pear Tree Specialist School in Kirkham.

They will hold a charity dinner on Friday evening and then a collection at the game against Ealing, when Fylde will wear a one-off shirt featuring the Pear Tree School logo and designed by Kukri Sports.
