In our Poulton Primary League match of the week, Poulton Town Panthers U12 emerged 6-4 winners away to St Annes.

Panthers’ diamond formation paid early dividends with two goals.

St Annes responded strongly, forcing an own goal from Aaron Forshaw’s cross into the six-yard box to get off the mark. Panthers made it 3-1 with a powerful free-kick only for Ben Atkinson to beat the keeper and make the half-time score 3-2.

Poulton added a penalty in an even second half but St Annes levelled the scores at 4-4 courtesy of Nathan Murray’s free-kick and Eathan Collison’s rocket shot, both finding the top corner.

Panthers midfielder Will Hacking restored their lead with an outstanding goal, a spectacular long-distance volley which dipped just below the bar.

Despite some great saves by the St Annes keeper, the Panthers added a further goal to complete their victory in a high-quality game played with great spirit.
