After the previous weekend’s washout, the vast majority of Coulton Cup group games for teams in the Poulton and District Primary League beat the weather on Saturday.
In Under-9 group A, there were victories for Foxhall and South Shore Youth Panthers, while Fleetwood Gym Wolves and St Annes Greens won in group B.
Thornton Cleveleys Reds edged out Lytham Juniors in group C, while Poulton Blacks and Sporting Foxhall drew their excellent tie. After a goalless first half, both teams scored twice in the second, Poulton coming back from behind to take the lead only for Foxhall to give this terrific game a fair result.
Group D saw YMCA Oranges and Clifton Rangers Wasps win. The Oranges proved too strong for BJFF Blues at Bispham Gala Field and took a 2-0 interval lead, then hit a further seven goals in the second half.
Harvey Barbour claimed a hat-trick, with Dan Brimble weighing in with a pair. Also on target were Dan Chesworth, Oli Mason, Liam Roberts and Theodore Mawane.
Fleetwood Town Reds won in group E, while Layton Juniors Clarets and Spirit of Youth All-Stars recorded victories in group F.
In group G, Staining Juniors of division 1D welcomed Poulton Town of 1B to Chain Lane and the result was a 12-goal bonanza.
The venue was switched and all the players showed grit and determination in this enthralling match.
Visitors Poulton moved into a 4-1 lead but Staining dug deep to draw level at 4-4.
In the last 10-minutes, Staining pulled away with a couple of super strikes from Alfie Conner and went on to win an excellent game 8-4.
Also in this group, YMCA Blacks were 5-0 winners over Layton Junior Blues, with goals from Alfie Berry (2), Tom Woodington, Billy Breakall and James Shuttleworth.
There were wins for Clifton Rangers Hornets and Fleetwood Town Whites in group H, while South Shore Youth Tigers and FC Rangers could not be separated.
In the Under-10 competition, Blackpool Rangers Tangerines and YMCA both won away in group A.
YMCA edged a tight derby tussle at St Annes 1-0 with a strike by Ali Ruman.
Foxhall were victorious in group B and Fleetwood Gym Warriors edged past Wyre Juniors.
Group C saw BJFF Blades Whites dominate their game against Spirit of Youth. Kayden Lord soon opened the scoring and Josh Nester made it 2-0.
Spirit rallied and kept BJ at bay until Taylor Shaw’s neat turn won a penalty which he converted. The three scorers then all added a second to make it 6-0 at half-time.
Taylor, Kayden Lord, Josh Nester and Raeden Shirran all added goals in the second half.
BJFF Blades Blues won at Clifton Rangers Hornets in group D, while in group E Poulton Dynamos had a narrow victory over St Annes Greens. Layton Juniors were victorious at Thornton Cleveleys Blues in group G.
And in group H, Foxhall Hoops edged past BJFF Predators Whites thanks to a second-half goal from a free-kick (though Jake Green was outstanding for BJ), Fleetwood Town won at South Shore Youth Warriors, and finally Staining Juniors and Clifton Rangers Bees fought out a high-scoring draw.
In the under-11 league, leaders YMCA overcame a plucky Spirit of Youth 11-1, having led 5-0 at half-time.
Charlie McGuiness led the way with four goals, with Kaiden Pirrie and Noah Mawane both claiming pairs. Daniel Keegan, Daniel Slawson and Harry Gledhill were all on target also.
YMCA U12 and Fleetwood Town settled for a point each from their entertaining 2-2 draw
Both teams created chances in an even first half, in which YMCA broke the deadlock just before the interval with a fine strike by Spencer Phillips after good play by Archie Hingley.
Town levelled soon after the restart and took the lead. YMCA equalised 10 minutes from the end, when the outstanding Phillips notched his second after good play by Josh Edwards and Ashley Waterfield. A draw was a fair result, with Harry Dyer impressive for YMCA and Kian Dodgson in fine form in goal.
