Pool stars at sport camp

Children enjoying an active half-term holiday courtesy of Blackpool FC Community Trust received a special treat last Thursday.

The Community Trust holds Sports Camps at various locations over each school holiday, enabling children to have fun staying fit in a safe and friendly environment.

Last week, over 250 children attended the half-term camps at Marton Academy, Unity Academy and Norbreck Academy, a highlight of which were the visits by Blackpool FC players on Thursday.

Our photographer was at the Marton camp, where James McAlister and Will Aimson were quizzed by the children, took part in a kick-up challenge and also presented the daily awards.

Hayden White visited the Unity camp and took part in a game of dodgeball in which the coaches took on the children.

And Danny Philliskirk and Mark Yeates attended the Norbreck camp, presenting awards for Star of the Day and the Certificate of Excellence.

The players were open to question, available for photographs and prepared to take the children on in games of table football. Besides football-related activities, arts, crafts and dancing were also on offer at the camps.

Head of Community Ashley Hackett said: “Having the players attending camps is a great way of allowing the young people to get to know the team, while enthusing and motivating the kids to take part in regular physical activity.”
