Our league is a coach killer says Fylde’s Nelson

FYLDE coach Mark Nelson has spoken of the intense pressure on clubs to succeed in National League One.

He remarked: “This league really is a coach killer.

“A team’s fate can rest on how many injuries they may or may not get in a season or on decisions that referees make. It’s a league in which every team can beat each other, and by the end of the season a lot of teams are going to finish on around the same number of points.

“It is hard to predict results in this league – Barking, who are near the bottom, have beaten the two top in the division. A team can just as easily go on a winning run of three matches as a losing run of three.”

Fylde could be four or five wins away from securing their status in the league for next season.

They are currently in second place on 42 points and Nelson said: “I don’t set targets but I will sleep easily in my bed once we have reached 60 points.”

Wing-forward Evan Stewart’s hand injury may not be as bad as first feared. He injured it in last weekend’s home defeat by Rosslyn Park. Fylde hope it is not a break and will monitor the injury in the run-up to the visit to Birmingham-Solihull on Saturday.

Forward Grant Ferguson will be available after missing the Rosslyn Park fixture, but prop Tom Lavelle is unavailable.
