The profile of the oval-ball game is enjoying a surge in its popularity with the Rugby World Cup and Blackpool schools St Mary’s, Highfield and Unity are doing their utmost to spread the gospel.
Year 7 & 8 teams from those schools are staging fortnightly triangular tournaments and AllStars was invited along to last week’s event at St Mary’s Catholic Academy.
The tournaments are devised to help pupils develop their basic rugby skills in a semi-competitive environment.
The rugby was played in the right spirit, with some outstanding performances by pupils from all three schools, especilally as many of the boys are new to the game.
St Mary’s won all their games to win both the Year 7 and Year 8 competitions.
