The Lancashire bowler was among the 55 players named in the group ahead of the proposed summer schedule.

Pakistan are also due to tour with one-day games against Ireland and Australia also on the horizon.

Gleeson has been training at Old Trafford with those Lancashire clubmates who were also called up, sticking to the safety guidelines laid down as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I wasn’t too worried about going back,” the 32-year-old said.

“I know, with everything they are doing there, it’s very unlikely to have any contamination.

“You would be safer going to Old Trafford and having a practice than going to your local supermarket, that’s for sure.

“Every day, everyone has to report how they are feeling and if they have a temperature.

“I’d be very surprised if anyone did contract it (Covid-19) coming to Old Trafford or any of the grounds.”

At this time of year, professional cricketers up and down the land would already be well into their County Championship and domestic one-day programmes.

However, with most sport in limbo as a result of the coronavirus crisis, it has made for a quieter Old Trafford than would otherwise have been the case.

As Gleeson admitted however, any early issues have now been addressed.

He said: “I think we’ve already adapted to it.

“I know, the first morning, driving in was weird and it was quite a surreal experience.

“As soon as we got bowling again, it was back to business and working on the things we worked on.

“It was quite normal pretty quickly.”
