Clifton Rangers have been steadily improving this season, as St Annes discovered to their cost on Sunday.

Four goals in the first half and three in the second completed an outstanding display by Chris Snell’s side … not bad for a team that doesn’t train!

Manager Snell explained: “They don’t actually train together as an 11-a-side team. They do their training with their nine-a-side teams.

“We had a couple of losses early in the season but now the lads are getting used to each other and are starting to dominate games.

The pick of the goals was the third, a clinical finish into the top corner by Will Salanki after an impressive move down the right.

A fine strike by Ben Wilmott gave the visitors a very early lead at Blackpool Road North and they never looked back.

Both Wilmott and Solanki scored a second, with the other goals from Ollie Shaw (one of three unrelated Shaws in the team), Callum Fielding and Ben Staveley.

The sides had never met before and St Annes manager tom Killick admitted his team were unsure what to expect.

The home side did create chances, but sometimes lacked players in support when breaks were made.

Manager Killick said: “We’ve had some tough games and a few wins. Our football has been improving but we went backwards on Sunday, We’ll carry on working hard.”
