Montgomery's golden achievement in Blackpool school games

Montgomery emerged victorious in the annual athletics championships for Blackpool secondary schools at Stanley Park.

The boys’ and girls’ track and field spectacular was staged as one combined event and Montgomery just about sealed victory with a total of 583.

That saw them finish five points ahead of runners-up Highfield.

St Mary’s were third with 553 points, Unity fourth on 496, Aspire fifth with 345 and St George’s sixth with 339.

The events were split into three age categories with boys and girls in Year 7-8, Year 9 and Year 10 all taking part on the day.

It was the success of the Montgomery boys and girls in the eldest age group which ultimately sealed their team’s overall success.

The points totals in the indivdual age groups were as follows.

Boys: 1. St Mary’s 106; 2. Montgomery 91; 3. St George’s 82.

Girls: 1. St George’s 107; 2. Highfield 93; 3. Unity 91.

Year 9

Boys 1. St Mary’s 110; 2. Highfield 94; 3. Montgomery 88.

Girls: 1. Highfield 116; 2. Montgomery 104; 3. Unity 90.

Year 10

Boys: 1 Montgomery 114; 2. Highfield and St Mary’s 98.

Girls: 1. Montgomery 108; 2. Highfield 102; 3. Unity 87.
