Match of the week: Foxhall U14 1 Warton Blues 3

Foxhall were confident from the off and made the perfect start, taking the lead in the opening minutes when striker Harrison Stott hit a wonderful strike from all of 30 yards.

But Warton were soon level as captain for the day Eoghan Murphy’s long-range half-volley bounced over the keeper and into the corner of the net.

The home side could have been back in front by half-time but missed a penalty and also saw Stott’s effort rebound off a post into the keeper’s arms.

And Warton made the most of these let-offs in the second half, taking the lead with a Lawrence Chiwanda free-kick and then sealing victory when the powerful Korgen Robinson burst clear to tuck away the third.

The deteriorating weather made good football more difficult in the closing stages and Warton were able to protect their lead for an excellent victory. First-time goalkeeper Benjamin Hadfield was outstanding for Warton.

And defender Adam Pearson excelled both at left-back and centre-half.

Foxhall anager Andrew Dunning is confident his side can bounce back.

He said: “It’s disappointing because we could have gone five points clear had we won, but we have everything to play for in the second half of the season.”

Warton have some catching up to do but are still in the title race too. Manager Pete McCardle said: “We are four or five games behind everyone else and still have a chance if we win our games in hand.

“We should finish in the top three.”
