Lytham start season in style

A lively start from Lytham saw them create a few chances with Natasha Singleton and Alix Townsend making some superb runs down the wings.

Only a host of fine saves from the home side’s goalkeeper kept the score at 0-0.

But the deadlock was finally broken as the break approached when a strike by Danielle Bamber was saved, only for Heidi Williams to react quickest to hand Lytham the half-time lead.

Lytham maintained their level of performance in the in the second-half with midfield trio Gilly Harrison, Danielle Bamber and Charlotte Evans showing some neat link-up play.

Evans went onto score a hattrick, the pick being a superb run from the half-way line where she skipped passed four players to score.

Gilly Harrison completed the scoring and sealed a 5-0 victory which sets the new-look side up nicely for next week’s tough home clash against Southport.

In the same division, Lytham Seconds fared less well at home to Clitheroe, losing 6-1.

Also featuring several new faces, Lytham opened the scoring when the impressive Sophia Crawshay’s shot rebounded for Bronte Edgar.

Penny Pemberton and Vicki Nickson passed well, while Amy Leach and Abi Eagles worked hard in defence but could not prevent Clitheroe going 2-1 up by half-time.

Courtney Spector and Edgar played well in the second half but Clitheroe made their experience count.

Clitheroe also won the third team match handsomely, 11-2.

n Lytham Men started with three defeats, the senior side beaten 2-0 at home to Whitley Bay & Teignmouth.

The Seconds went down 3-1 away to Carlisle’s first team and the Thirds were on the wrong end of a 4-2 scoreline at home to Brooklands MU Fifths.
