Lytham St Annes school's rounders glory at the double at Rossall

Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College won both tournaments as Rossall School staged a rounders extravaganza last week.

Lytham St Annes Technology and Performing Arts College won both tournaments as Rossall School staged a rounders extravaganza last week.

LSA teams won both the Under-13 and Under-15 Wyre and Fylde district tournaments, beating hosts Rossall in both finals.

In group one of the U13 event, Lytham progressed to the semi-finals in first place with Rossall going through in second place.

St Bede’s and Garstang were the qualifiers in group two.

Rossall faced Garstang in the first semi-final and won a very close game 6.5 to 3.5, while Lytham faced St Bede’s in the other semi and won 10.5-5.5.

After a defeat in the group round to Lytham, Rossall knew they had to up their game for the final.

Despite a more competitive game, Lytham were crowned champions with an 8-3 victory.

In the U15 event, Baines progressed through group one comfortably after winning all their games, with Lytham in a close second place.

In group two, it was St Bede’s who progressed in first place with four wins and Rossall who took second spot.

Baines faced Rossall in the first semi-final and another close encounter saw Rossall win 8.5-5.

In the second semi, Lytham won through to the final with a 12.5-7 victory against St Bede’s.

A very tense final between Rossall and Lytham came down to the final Lytham batter, with one rounder needed to win.

Confident running saw Lytham score the rounder they required to be crowned champions.

Other schools involved in both tournaments were Millfield, Fleetwood, Hodgson and Carr Hill, while Cardinal Allen also competed in the U15s’ category.
