Lytham make it eight out of nine

After a goalless first half, Charlotte Evans broke the deadlock with a penalty stroke before goals from Gemma Trickett and Gilly Harrison sealed the three points.

Lytham Seconds recorded their second win in the same league with an emphatic 6-1 success away to fellow struggers Preston Seconds.

Preston opened the scoring but Lytham’s continuing improvement was rewarded as Sophia Crawshay’s equaliser, from Rachel Casey’s fine pass, opened the floodgates.

Gilly Shields scored the second and it was 3-1 at half-time thanks to Crawshay’s second, following Courtney Spector’s strong run, and an amazing goalline clearance by Shields.

Crawshay finished with four, completing her tally with a superb solo strike, and Hannah Travis was the other scrorer as Jenny Malings swept up well in defence.

Lytham Thirds went down 7-2 in a Fylde coast derby against Rossall’s senior side in division two.

Four goals down at half-time, Lytham hit back with a fine run and shot by Beth Everson. Rossall added three more, despite Steph Zeal netting Lytham’s second.

Fiona Dransfield scored and captain Kandy Cardwell was outstanding in midfield, but Blackpool failed to capitalise on many chances.

Blackpool Seconds defeated high-flying Springfields Thirds 2-1 in their division one match at Preston. Taegan O’Hara scored both to put Blackpool two up at half-time.

The second half was a lot closer Springfields pulled one back to set up an exciting final 20 minutes, in which Blackpool defended strongly. Shona MacPherson was player of the game.

Blackpool Thirds were convincing 6-0 winners over their Morecambe counterparts.

Emily Copp scored twice in the first half and goals by Beth Kerr and Mairead Lucas made it 4-0 at half-time.

Copp’s hat-trick goal capped her player of the match performance, and Bethany Ashworth completed the scoring. Hope Kneale-Kaye and Mairead Lucas were outstanding.

>> Blackpool Men came unstuck away to division three leaders Keswick West Cumbria in the North West League.

They lost 6-1 despite taking an early lead through top scorer Dave Morgan.

It was 3-1 by half-time, Keswick’s third coming from the final play of the half.

Blackpool looked to throw more men forward but turned over too much possession and paid the price.

It got no easier the following day at Formby in the Lancashire Cup quarter-finals.

Formby, who play five levels above Blackpool in the Northern Premier League, scored in the first minute.

But a Blackpool team missing several senior players played with great spirit from then on, and Mariano de la Lastra went close from an acute angle.

Formby led 3-1 at half-time and doubled their tally in the second half, though Steve Whitley and Chris Hocking went close for Blackpool.

Blackpool Seconds also travelled to Cockermouth to play division seven leaders, Keswick West Cumbria and got the perfect start.

Jordan Payne and captain Simon Allen put the visitors two up after ten minutes only for Keswick to pull level by half-time.

Keswick sealed victory with two second-half goals, while Allen had one disallowed. Blackpool stay third in the table at the halfway point.

A Sam Owen wonder goal and an Andy Mortimer strike put Blackpool 2-1 up against Preston Sixths at Stanley Park only for the visitors to hit back and win the division nine north match 3-2.

LSA Seconds recovered from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw at home to Didsbury Northern Thirds in North West four.

It was 2-2 at half-time after Simon Evans and Mick Huggon steadied Lytham’s ship and Tom Atkinson netted two deflected goals.

Atkinson then set up George Aldersley to put LSA ahead straight from the restart, and they remain second in the table despite Didsbury’s equaliser.

LSA Thirds’ match at Bolton Thirds followed a similar pattern with the same final scoreline in division six north.

Again LSA found themselves two down in the first half but Jack Baxter-Beard’s debut goal gave them hope at half-time.

Bolton went 3-1 up only for the deficit to be cut again when Mike Gannon converted Dan Yates’ slick pass.

Keiran Griffiths had another fine game and earned the last-minute short corner from which Phil Hope equalised to crown an excellent team display.

LSA Fourths gave a much-improved performance but lost their seven north clash to a late winner against Chorley Seconds.

Dave Cartmell equalised for LSA just before the break, while Neil Landmann, Simon Long and Steve Poole all played well before the visitors edged it 2-1.
