When Fylde Flyers met Nottingham Lions in the opening match of the English National Ice Hockey season, the result was in doubt to the last five minutes. The rematch was a different story.
A Flyers side missing key players felt the full force of the rampant league leaders, who won 12-0.
Again the Flyers conceded an opening goal inside two minutes and a strong Nottingham team had too much skill and firepower.
The Flyers did have their chances, with coach Mark Gillingham firing is some blistering shot,s and Bobby Caunce, Kurtis Hall and Ricky Hulme all going close.
Tony Melbourne battled valiantly in defence and was the Flyer’s most valuable player. Four-goal Joe Wightman took the accolade for the Lions.
Flyers now have a fortnight to nurse injuries, and with the influential Andy Clark and Janis Grinbergs due to return, they should be in better shape for the tip to Deeside Dragons in Queensferry on Sunday week.
