Both sides had gone into the match with a 100 per cent record in their group, so it was effectively a semi-final to decide who would contest the Bill Beaumont Cup at the game’s headquarters.

The Red Rose county had taken a 6-0 lead courtesy of two penalties.

By half-time Cheshire had hit back by scoring two unconverted tries to go 10-6 up.

Too many errors crept into Lancashire’s play in the second period and Cheshire were convincing winners.

Cheshire will now meet Cornwall in the final.

It is Cheshire’s first final since 2002.
