Smith, who was unbeaten on 99 overnight, firmly cut the first delivery of the morning to the boundary to reach a deserve hard worked three figures
The ton came in 285 balls, and despite the occasional boundary, looked in no mood to up his run-rate – leading the home side to 391 for four at lunch.
Lancashire, who had plugged away with little reward on the first day had three wickets to celebrate.
