Olympic athlete David Moorcroft visited Blackpool Wyre and Fylde AC in his capacity as Director of Sport of Join In, which encourages volunteering.
David won medals in European and Commonwealth Championships and is the last runner from outside Africa to hold the 5000m world record.
Moorcroft, who ran for Great Britain for over 15 years and contested three Olympics, was delighted to meet BWF junior Lucy Tickle, who had written an article for the Parkrun Newsletter when she was nine about her enjoyment of these events. Lucy’s letter was reproduced in the Join-In Newsletter.
Also introduced to David were Lucy’s brother Jack, mother Michelle and coach Stan Taylor.
David presented certificates to Lucy and the family for their voluntary work marshalling at Parkruns.
