Hall together now at local landmark

The Lytham Hall Autumn 5K proved a draw to many Lytham St Annes Road Runners members, who made up the largest group with 13.

Picturesque Lytham Hall and its grounds provided an excellent venue for the race, now in its fifth year.The course follows single lap of the Forest Drive estate.

Joe Greenwood finished fourth, just outside the prizes, in an impressive 17mins, 32secs. Graham Webster, second home for LSARRC, took the MV60 prize in 15th place with 19.09.

Roy Upton was 19th and third V45 in 19.53, Willie Richmond, 20th and second V50 in 19.59 (making a club V50 gold standard) and Steve Quarmby, 21st and third V50 in 20.45.

Melanie Koth finished three places further back, fifth woman and second V40 in 21.13, a club gold standard.

Pamela Hardman, newly graduated to V55, won tht category in 25.22. V45 Dawn Bloor (24.30) and V50 Fiona Geldard (24.37) were both second in their age groups. 

Other results. Rebecca Willetts (V40) 24.53, Pamela Hardman (V55) 25.22, Liz Boon (V40) 25.32, Greg Oulton (V45) 25.36 and James Whitworth (V65) 26.18.

The MBNA Chester Marathon took place in pleasant conditions, starting and finishing at Chester Racecourse and taking in the stunning Cheshire and North Wales scenery.

Tom Haworth was the first Lytham contender home in 3.12.02, 209th overall.

Marathon debutantes Katharine Hoyland and Felicity Wolohan achieved superb times of 3.47.31 and 3.56.50 respectively. Hoyland was 964th overall and 138th woman, and Wolohan 1249th overall and 200th woman. Dawn Lock represented Lytham at the Burnley Fire Station 10K, modifying its long-established seven mile course to a 10k length.Clayton-le-Moors Harrier Jonathan McKenna led a field of 234 home in an impressive 35.08. Lock finished in 1.14.35.

Mark Willett was in the capital city for The Royal Parks Half-marathon and appreciated the scenic course and the unusual wooden medal.

He finished in 1.26.39 and has now completed 35 half marathons on his way to his final goal of 40.

The annual Green Drive Five race takes place a week tomorrow.

The fast five mile course covers the rural lanes of Warton and the event includes the inaugural Junior Mile for U16s run in conjunction with the seniors’ race.

The first 300 runners in the five-miler will receive a technical T-shirt and there are generous prizes on offer. The Junior Mile starts at 10am and the Green Drive Five at 11am.

Would-be competitors can sign in at Lytham Church of England Primary School, Park View Road, FY8 4HA from 9.30am.
