ROYAL Lytham and St Annes golfer Emily Taylor shot 78, five behind the leaders, in the weather-hit St Rule Trophy at St Andrews.

Southerly winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour on the Old Course meant the tournament, traditionally played over three rounds, was decided over the first 18 holes.

Only 11 players in the high-quality field of 59 had completed their second rounds on the Old Course before play was suspended, because balls were moving on some of the more exposed greens.

Eventually, with the gale showing no sign of decreasing, it was decided to abandon play and declare the prizewinners on the basis of the first-round scores.

Leading final scores on 73 were Ashley Ona (Australia), Breanna Elliott (Australia), Madelene Sagstrom (Sweden), Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell, Ireland).
