Top post for Alex at Royal Troon club

Caldicott has been appointed assistant at the world famous Royal Troon club in Scotland, one of the traditional courses on the Open rota.

Caldicott admitted that it came as something of a surprise that he had been called back for a second interview and then made it to the final two.

Before the decision was announced, he took part in a four-ball at the course, featuring Troon professional Kieron Stevenson and his father, as well as the other final candidate for the assistant’s post.

Caldicott finished up a winner, twice over, as he explained.

“It was a very close game and I managed to hole a 35-foot putt on the last hole to win the match – I think I will remember that putt for the rest of my life.

“After the golf, we then sat for another formal interview and I am pleased to say I was later offered the job.”

Caldicott sets off for Scotland on Sunday for an important chapter in his golfing life.

He is a product of the Old Links junior set-up and paid tribute to the help he had received at the club and from his family.

Caldicott’s previous experience was working for a time at Blackpool North Shore.

He is former student at Lytham St Annes High School and his family live in Ansdell.

He said: “Royal Troon is a great club with great facilities and heritage and it is a big opportunity to get the chance to work at such a prestigious club.

“Maybe I will be a little bit fazed and nervous when I get there, but it is very exciting.”
