Team up for a worthy cause

Rosemere Golfers Against Cancer will host the first annual Beaverbrooks Golf Day on September 20 at the club.

Now into their 11th year of raising much-needed funds for the cancer charity, the group are inviting teams of four to take part.

Team entry fee is £300, which includes a professional club-cleaning service. Entry also includes a light lunch, a shotgun start at 1pm, dinner, prize presentation and an audience with comedian and entertainer Norman Prince, former frontman of the Houghton Weavers and a patron of RGAC.

Additional dinner tickets can be purchased for £30 each.

Rosemere Golfers Against Cancer was founded in 2001 by Leyland golfer Keith McIntosh, who wanted to combine his love of the sport with support for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

Over 10 years, through a regular programme of events, RGAC has raised thousands of much-needed pounds for the charity.

Along with Norman Prince, group patrons and supporters include former European Tour golfer Paul Eales, now based at Garstang, and leading professional caddy Phil ‘Wobbly’ Morbey, recently seen in action carrying for Thomas Bjorn as he finished fifth in the Open Championship at Royal St George’s, Sandwich.

McIntosh explained: “We stage regular events at Leyland, Morecambe and other North West golf clubs, but we are delighted to be able to promote this new competition at Fairhaven.

“I am sure it will be a spectacular and enjoyable occasion for all. One of the main aims of RGAC is to promote the Rosemere Cancer Foundation to officials at golf clubs around Lancashire.

“We hope to encourage them, along with local companies and corporate golf organisers, to adopt Rosemere as one of their charities – our patrons Norman, Paul and ‘Wobbly’ are very important in this work.”
