THE Staining Lodge golf course is to break new ground.

Since it opened in 2007, it has been a pay and play course – but now it has launched golf contracts and membership.

The membership scheme will begin on April 1, 2012.

Staining will remain pay and play and open to anyone who wants a round of golf, but the Wigglesworth family that run the course believe it can operate in tandem with a contract and membership programme.

A seven day contract costs £575, and a Monday to Thursday contract costs £395.

A loyalty card scheme will also be available. Membership is £60 and will be run separately to the golf contracts.

The membership scheme will have a men’s and ladies section and offer competitions and official English Gold Union handicaps to both contract holders and pay and play golfers.

Laura Cobain, who is helping to organise the initiative, said: “Staining Lodge has launched the membership scheme as a response to a gap in the market for an affordable way for local golfers to obtain a handicap without costly membership fees.

“Staining Lodge has seen their regular customer base grow and a successful society has been running at the course for the last two years, the time seemed right to formalise the group into a membership so handicaps could be offered.

“The English Golf Union have been very supportive with the organisation and launch of the membership scheme.”

The course has golf pros offering lessons, golf carts, hire-clubs and trolleys, which are available to hire from the pro shop.
