The Open 2012 - Qualifiers praise best greens

Head professional at the club Daniel Webster said: “The event ran very smoothly from start to finish and the 80 or so volunteers played their part superbly.

“From 5am members were on hand to ensure the competitors were fed and watered, and made to feel special for the day.

“I’ve heard nothing but compliments from the R&A, competitors and visitors about how St Annes Old Links hosted the event.

“I spoke with almost all of the players and each one commented not only on the exceptional course condition, but also on how well they had been looked after.

“Many players explained how our greens were the finest they had played on this year, and most of the players play regularly on the European Tour or global amateur events.”

n PHIL MICKELSON (pictured) is a late entry for the Scottish Open, which starts at the Castle Stuart course in Inverness tomorrow.

The 42-year-old has been given the final sponsors’ invitation after going seven consecutive rounds without beating par, the worst sequence of his career, which has seen him win three Masters title.
