Lytham teen aims for prized place

ROYAL Lytham and St Annes teenager Emily Taylor will bid to claim a prized place among the world golfing elite at the Panmure course on the east coast of Scotland on Monday.

She will take part in final qualifying for the Ricoh British Open Championship, which gets under way at Carnoustie next Thursday.

Emily is one of 88 golfers – 60 of them professionals, in Monday’s field for the final 18 holes.

The Royal Lytham amateur successfully won through pre-qualifying at The Berkshire. She as did fellow Lancashire player Nikki Foster (Pleasington).

Both had level par rounds of 72 there to finish joint-tenth.

Seventeen places for Carnoustie will be up for grabs at nearby Panmure.

Just as in the men’s Open, there is a Silver Medal for the leading amateur at the Ricoh Women’s British Open, who also wins the Smyth Salver.

Big-name professionals competing at Panmure include former Solheim Cup player Trish Johnson, who has spent many distinguished years on the Ladies’ European Tour since her stellar amateur career,

Emily is paired with fellow amateur Rachael Goodall and professional Kym Larratt.
