Fleetwood golfer Jenna Birch is continuing to enjoy success on the course during her student days in the United States.

Jenna, a member at Royal Lytham and St Annes as well as Fleetwood Golf Club, claimed runners-up spot in the annual tournament at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Georgia. She shot scores of 78 and 75 for a two-round aggregate of 153.

Jenna finished four shots adrift of her winning team-mate Kilby Mettler in the 83-strong field. However, she was part of the winning team from Armstrong Atlantic, where she is in her third year as a student.

Meantime, there was an interesting Fylde ‘local derby’ when Lancashire ladies’ took on England North West U18s at Formby.

Gemma Batty (St Annes Old Links and Lancashire) took on Emily Shea (Fairhaven, Royal Lytham and North West)

Gemma prevailed against the Fylde junior girls’ champion 5 and 3.

The match was a well-contested affair, with the North West prevailing by five matches to four.

The young North West team, made up of players from Lancashire and Cheshire, won the first three matches before going down in the next four.

However, the North West team finished the day strongly and won a close, interesting encounter. Four of the contests went down to the 18th hole before the outcome was finally decided.
