Hard work pays off for Emily

FAIRHAVEN Golf Club’s junior girls’ captain Emily Shea had plenty to celebrate this week.

She was among the prize-winners at the Lancashire Junior Championships held at Formby.

She took the prize for the best nett aggregate (76+77=149-14=139)

Also among the trophy winners was Gemma Batty, of St Annes Old Links (74-2-72)

Overall winner was Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe, 74+72-146)

Second was Hollie Muse (West Lancashire, 74+74-148) and third Hollie Vizard (Pleasington, 74+75-149)

Age Group Trophy winners:

Under15: Sophie Lamb (Clitheroe).

The subsidiary stableford competition was won by Thiri Naing (West Lancashire) with 38 points from Christine Larkin (Silverdale) 36 points.

n ROYAL Lytham golfer Beth Garton missed out on qualifying for the latter stages of the rain-hit English women’s open mid-amateur championship at Wetherby – she shot an eight over par round of 81.

The repeated delays forced a change of format from matchplay to a 36-hole stroke-play event ultimately won by eenager Emma Carberry, from Sussex.
