An annual charity competition which has raised more than £30,000 for Trinity Hospice continues to grow by the year at Herons Reach Golf Club.
The Chris O’Keeffe Memorial Trophy has been organised by club member and former captain Steve O’Keeffe since 2004 in honour of his late brother.
Initially designed to reunite Chris’ friends, the competition has grown into an open team event, attracting up to 80 players each year.
The main event is for teams of four, though there are also competitions for the best pair, best individual and various other prizes.
This year’s event raised £1,190 and a cheque was presented to Linzi Warburton at Trinity Hospite.
The team trophy was won by ‘The Young Ones’, while Duncan Whitehead took the individual prize and shared the pairs prize with Bryn Largue.
The sun shone for Knott End Ladies’ annual exchange day at Pleasington Golf Club.
Thirty three ladies played a three-ball stableford won by Helen Trickett, Felicity Lawson and Joanne Kay with a score of 72
Second were Jean Gates, Muriel Naden and Marion Hill with 66 and third Pauline Fawcett, Jean Molloy and Elaine Blackburn with 65.
Linda Gregory won both the nearest the line and nearest the pin competi tions.
There was also an 18-hole putting competition won by Sylvia Wilson with a score of 35. Lady Captain Jen Booth presented the prizes.
Gusting winds and torrential rain forced the abandonment of the Junior North West Open at Knott End on Sunday.
Blustery conditions continued for the following day’s Worsley Key Mixed competition, but at least the annual event could go ahead and was won by Linda Smith and Dave Brocklehurst with a score of 71.4.
Second were David and Fiona Forrester (71.6) and third Trevor and Jean Molloy (73.2) after a play-off with rent and Alex Gardner .
The Ladies Manning Brooch at Fairhaven Golf Club was won by Mary Hudson (division one) with a score of 74. Second was Andrea Grimshaw (division two, 75) and third Susan Prater (division three, 77).
Winner of the men’s Middleton Cup was John Greenhalgh (72), with Andy Tiso second (73) and John Ashcroft third (73).
