High-class hurdler Coeur De Lion can make a successful return to the Flat in the Betway Handicap at Southwell tomorrow.

Alan King’s charge has a rating pushing 140 over jumps but is a more than useful operator on the level as well, winning once and placing four times from just seven starts.

He has struggled to make an impact over hurdles so far this season, so it is perhaps no surprise King has decided to switch codes.

With a total prize fund of £15,000 up for grabs, this two-mile contest has attracted a decent field but Coeur De Lion looks sure to go well.

Angel Palanas can complete a course hat-trick in the sunbets.co.uk Handicap. Following several fine efforts in defeat, the Karl Burke-trained four-year-old bolted here shortly after the turn of the year and a 10lb hike was not enough to stop him following up three weeks later.

He has been raised another 4lb to a perch of 73, but he clearly likes the track and there could still be some mileage in his mark. A step up to seven furlongs for the first time could also help him.

Conditions promise to be extremely testing at Lingfield but that should not worry Burgess Dream too much.

The nine-year-old’s two victories both came at this venue and on both occasions the ground was heavy.

It is almost a year since he last struck gold but his third-placed finish last time here over fences was a big step in the right direction.

He is only 1lb higher than when winning here last February and shoud make his presence felt in the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Handicap Hurdle.

My Old Gold can make it third time lucky under rules in the Jump To It And Join RacingUK Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Ayr.

The eight-year-old was a dual point-to-point winner in Ireland before joining Nicky Richards and has made a promising start for new connections, finishing third at this track and second at Newcastle.
