Captain Mark Roberts is on a Wembley mission as Fleetwood Town kick off their Johnstone’s Paints Trophy campaign on Tuesday night
And skipper Roberts can’t wait for the chance to test himself against opponents from the higher level, with the ultimate goal a final at the home of football.
The defender said: “Every player dreams of playing at Wembley. That final at the end of the competition is the carrot for everyone.
“I know some teams might pick weakened sides but our starting 11 will be one we believe can win the game.”
Town ran League One Notts County close in the Capital One Cup, and for Roberts it’s another change to put a marker down for Fleetwood’s season.
He said: “It’s an opportunity to send a statement out to everyone in our league and the league above. That’s the division we want to get into.
“The opportunity doesn’t come every week to play against League One opposition and it’s something we’re all looking forward to. We all want to get through.”
