A goal by Kyle Vassell after 20 minutes was the difference between the two sides in this opening match of the League Two season at sunny Bloomfield Road.

He was put in the clear with a telling through-pass and though the Exeter goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik got part of his body in the way of the shot, it looped over him and into the visitors' net.

Blackpool had other first half chances, but Exeter too were well in it in this entertaining encounter.

Ollie Watkins had Exeter's best chance of the half, heading on to the woodwork from close range.

The Seasiders had a setback when they lost Danny Philliskirk to injury after only 10 minutes - he was replaced by substitute Colin Daniel.

Danny Pugh (Blackpool) and Craig Woodman and Troy Brown (Exetr) picked up first half bookings.
