The Football League has dismissed questions from Port Vale over the match official who played a key role in Fleetwood Town’s match-winning penalty at the weekend.
Port Vale Chairman Norman Smurthwaite approached the League regarding the appointment of one of the officials for Fleetwood’s 1-0 win.
The Gazette understands Darwen-based assistant referee Ben Toner is a teacher at Fleetwood High School and is the man under scrutiny, having flagged for the foul on David Ball which led to the spot kick.
The League however hasmade it clear it believes there are no issues with the appointment.
In a statement, a spokesman said: “The Football League is satisfied with the integrity of all its match officials.
“In this case the assistant referee does not live in Fleetwood and has no link to Fleetwood Town Football Club.”
Vale now consider the matter closed.
