Uwe dismayed by lack of plaudits for players

Fleetwood boss Uwe Rosler is disappointed his players did not receive the national recognition they deserved during their mammoth 18-match unbeaten run in League One '“ but he says that is great motivation to keep upsetting those who do not want to see Town battling it out at the top of the table in the final 10 games.

That four-month unbeaten run ended with a 4-2 defeat to promotion rivals Bolton on Saturday.

But despite racking up the biggest unbeaten run in the whole Football League this season, centre-half Cian Bolger was the only Town man to be nominated for the EFL Player of the Month award in the last three months.

Rosler himself won the manager of the month award for January, a prize he said was for this whole team, and the head coach was disappointed that more of his players were not recognised by the EFL judging panel during their run.

That run has catapulted them to second in the table, and ahead of tonight’s crunch clash at Walsall the German said the snub has made him even more determined to prove the naysayers wrong.

He said: “I find it very disappointing that we had only one nomination for a player in the last three months.

“Maybe they (the judges) find it hard to come to Fleetwood? Maybe they prefer to go to London or Manchester or Birmingham because it is easier to get there?

“With the run we have been on in the league and the outstanding performances we have had, to only nominate one player in that spell is for me a massive disappointment.

“My players have been on such a unbelievable run. We are not talking about Bolton Wanderers, who have come from the Championship on a massive budget – we are talking about Fleetwood Town and not getting the recognition they deserved is massively disappointing.

“In the end, there are a lot of people do not want us to be up there and that is a great motivation for us. It makes me really, really determined.”

Rosler says that unbeaten run shows his side are not weak mentally as they bid to end ninth-placed Walsall’s six- game winning streak at home and edge closer to their next target of 74 points.

Rosler said: “When you are mentally weak you definitely don’t go on a run like that.

“We will be strong and we will go to Walsall to get a result.

“Will it be a win? Will it be a draw? I don’t know.

“We are going there to get a result and that is what we are always driving for. We want to win games, and when it is not enough to win we make sure we try to get a draw.”

“Walsall have a different make-up (to Bolton) but it will be as hard. They have won six games in a row at home and are on the verge of the play-offs. They are very strong. They play also three at the back so we will see what happens.”

And Rosler stressed once again his eagerness to get injured players back soon. These include skipper Nathan Pond, striker Wes Burns and midfielders Jimmy Ryan and Martyn Woolford, while striker Devante Cole limped off before half-time against Bolton,

Rosler said: “I would like to have enough time to get my players back from the injury table.

“Devante had a problem, which is why he had to go off . It was not planned but we will see where he is.”
