Nothing is on the line for the Seasiders today as they head to the New York Stadium to take on a Rotherham side already assured of a play-off finish.

Gary Bowyer’s side are currently the division’s form side, having won four of their last five games – and Turton wants the Seasiders to build on that momentum and finish the season with another positive result.

“I think we need to go into the game wanting to win it and finish the season on a massive high,” he said.

“I guarantee the gaffer will want us to work as hard as we can to try and get a result.

“You can’t go into the game thinking there’s nothing to play for, you always want to prove yourself and show what you are about.”

It’s already been a good week for Turton, who on Tuesday received the players’ player of the year award at the club’s end-of-season awards night.

That was deserved recognition for the 25-year-old, who arrived at Bloomfield Road on a two-year deal during the summer, having previously made more than 170 appearances for Crewe Alexandra.

Turton added: “Prior to coming here in the summer I had been at Crewe all my life, so to get that recognition from my team-mates tops off a good year for me.

“I was chuffed to bits with it. Obviously they see you training every day and playing week in, week out, so they know what you actually do for the team.

“I thought a lot of players could have won that award because of how well we have all done, but luckily it was me.

“Personally it’s been a great year for me.

“Coming to a new team, the lads, the staff and the fans have all been very welcoming.

“As a team it’s been a great season as well. It’s easy saying now if we had got a few more positive results we could have been in the play-offs, but other than that it’s been a really successful season.

“If I’m being honest I didn’t think I’d play as much as I have done because of how well Kelvin (Mellor) had done last year.

“But unfortunately for him and the team he got injured, but that paved the way for me to play.

“I’d like to think I took that chance and went on to have a successful season.”
