Southend United boss Phil Brown is hoping to convince Fleetwood target Ryan Cresswell to stay at Roots Hall

Brown held talks with the 25-year-old centre-half, hoping to put him off the idea of a switch.

Rotherham-born Cresswell, who has one year left on his Roots Hall contract, is understood to want a move back north, with Chesterfield his favoured destination.

Brown said: “Ryan sat down to have a chat about things and he seemed interested in what we had to say to him.

“He seemed very receptive and now one of my main aims is to make Ryan want to stay.”
