Town set to arrange more pre-season friendlies

Town have already arranged four pre-season friendlies and a mini tour of the Netherlands but boss Steven Pressley says more fixtures are due to be announced.

Currently Town will start their pre-season at home to Premier League club Liverpool on Wednesday July 13.

And chairman Andy Pilley says all seating tickets have sold out and the rest of the tickets are due to sell out.

He Tweeted on Wednesday: “Tickets for Liverpool friendly flying out, all seats now sold out.

“Purchase very soon to avoid disappointment.

“Soon to be sold out.”

Town then travel to National League North side Salford City that is part owned by five of Manchester United’s Class of 92 side Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs on Saturday July 16.

Pressley’s men then head to the Netherlands were they will face Fortuna Sittard on Tuesday July 19 Eredivisie outfit AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday July 20 and Roda JC Kerkrade on July 23.

When they return to England they have an away fixture at National League side Southport on Tuesday July 26 and travel to National League side Gateshead on Wednesday 27.

And Pressley says he wants to start the season with two players for every 11 positions to encourage competition for places.

He said: “In pre-season every single member of the first team group will get game time.

“When the fixtures are finalised we should be playing some Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday games because I want to give every body an opportunity to stake a claim.

“(This season) I want to have a group of 22 players with two players for each position having the chance to play in the team.

“I want to bring a real competition to the squad.”
