Taylor expects a tough start for Blackpool this weekend

Chris Taylor hopes to have further cause for celebration after opening his account at Crewe Alexandra

The Seasiders begin the new season with a journey to High Wycombe this Saturday to take on a side promoted from League Two last year.

Taylor, who will be aiming to make his Blackpool debut this weekend, says Pool will have to be wary of the momentum and confidence Gareth Ainsworth’s men are likely to have.

He said: “I think they are going to be very direct, from what I’ve heard. They are going to get balls in the box and they’re going to ask questions.

“They’re on a high from last year because they got promoted. They’ll have no fear and it will be a difficult game. But I think it’s one where we can go down there and hopefully get off to a good start.”

When asked what Pool can achieve this season, Taylor added: “You never know, the league we’re in is so tight from top to bottom. The margins will be very small.

“We will definitely be very competitive and we will definitely be giving everything we’ve got. Hopefully there will be some good wins along the way and some good signs.

“In this league I think you can’t just play one way, you have to have a plan B and a plan C if it’s not going right.

“In the first half an hour at Crewe, I thought some of the passing and movement was really good and we were cutting them open at times.

“With a little bit more quality in the final third I think we could have got two or three.

“Then in the second half the big man (Armand Gnanduillet) comes on and then we have the ability to mix it up. You definitely need that mixture of both.”

Taylor signed for the Seasiders in June after his departure from Bolton Wanderers.

The 31-year-old, who started his career with Oldham Athletic, has made more than 400 senior appearances in his career to date.

A number of those games came at Blackburn Rovers where he previously played under Bowyer.

“You often hear people say the manager was the biggest reason in them joining, but for me he definitely was,” he added.

“I’ve worked under him before and it’s no secret I didn’t have a great year last year injury-wise. I was probably never going to play anyway.

“So I was just wanting to get fit and get on the field to score goals like I did at Crewe.”
