Taylor calls on Blackpool to end the uncertainty

Defender Taylor, who will leave the club when his contract expires this summer, says the issues must be resolved to allow the club to progress.

Blackpool defied the odds to achieve a top-half finish under what Taylor admits were “difficult” circumstances following promotion from League Two.

The 32-year-old said: “Whenever a team gets promoted into a new division, I think the first aim has got to be to stay in that division.

“Even though we were flirting with it (the relegation battle) at one point, we’ve ended up staying up quite comfortably, so you’d have to say it was a good first season back in League One.

“I think that after several years on a downward curve the club is at last on an upward turn – definitely on the pitch anyway.

“I couldn’t tell you what is going on off the pitch but hopefully it gets resolved one way or another.

“I think the uncertainty is the biggest factor at the moment.

“But if it gets resolved, the uncertainty can disappear and the club can move forward and progress in whatever way.

“It’s always going to be difficult when you have that uncertainty hanging over you.

“I don’t know the ins and outs of what’s going on but I hope it gets resolved sooner rather than later for the sake of everyone at the club.”

Taylor, who signed for Blackpool in July 2016, played a leading role in the club’s promotion in 2016-17.

But the left-back has been a bit-part player this season, making just 13 appearances in all competitions.

Despite that disappointment, Taylor is confident the club is in safe hands under the management of Gary Bowyer.

“For four or five years the club was on a downward spiral and it’s had some really tough times, with the back-to-back relegations,” he added.

“But you only have to look at the results (since Bowyer has come in). They bounced back with promotion at the first time of asking and this year they comfortably secured their League One status.

“The manager’s results speak for themselves. I think he will probably be looking to kick on next year and hopefully challenge for the play-offs.”
