Jamille Matt has become the first of Fleetwood Town’s out of contract stars to put pen to paper on a new deal.
The forward missed the entire of last season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, picked up in the last minute of Fleetwood’s last pre-season friendly.
He has been working extensively with club medical staff on his rehabilitation and boss Graham Alexander is hoping to have the former Kidderminster man - Town’s record signing - ready to join pre-season training ahead of the new League One campaign.
The 25-year-old has signed a one-year deal.
He said having Matt back in the squad would be like having ‘a new player’.
The forward’s career at Fleetwood has been dogged by injury but his goals to starts ratio is bettered only by Jamie Vardy in the last five seasons.
